Patient Experience
Our world stopped when our 8-year-old was diagnosed. The first appointment with Dr. Thakkar, we were a mess. She sat with us for nearly an hour, just listening, drawing diagrams on a notepad to explain things in a way we could finally understand. She never talked down to us. There were long days in the hospital, and sometimes we had to wait a bit for her rounds, but she always came, always remembered my daughter's favorite cartoon, and always looked me in the eye when giving updates, good or bad. She treated my child like a person, not just a patient. That meant everything.
Diagnosis: AML. Referred to Dr. Dhwanee Thakkar at Medanta. Clear treatment plan from day one. She is direct, answers questions without sugarcoating, but is also clear about the goal. The nursing team she works with is very coordinated. Parking at the hospital is often a challenge, but the clinical care is efficient. My blood counts are now normal. Follow-up plan is set. Good doctor.
I was so frightened when I came to Dr. Thakkar. My hands wouldn't stop shaking. She has a very calm way about her; she speaks softly but you can hear every word clearly. She took time. When I got confused about the medication schedule, she had her assistant write it out for me in large print. There were a lot of hard days, but I always felt she was truly seeing me, not just the cancer. The care felt… thoughtful. I’m in a much better place now, and I am so grateful for her kindness through it all.
Five months post-treatment and I just got the all-clear! Dr. Thakkar is fantastic. When I first met her, I was braced for the worst, but she was so genuinely positive about the options. Her energy is contagious! Yeah, the hospital wifi is spotty and the chairs in the waiting area aren't the comfiest, but who cares? The team she runs is sharp, they remembered my name every time, and she high-fived me after my last scan. I feel like I got my life back. Couldn't have asked for a better guide through this crazy journey.
