About Hysteroscopic Polypectomy

Hysteroscopic polypectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed by an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to remove uterine polyps (endometrial polyps). A thin, lighted telescope called a hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. This allows the surgeon to visualize the polyp directly and remove it using specialized instruments passed through the hysteroscope, often with cutting loops or graspers. The procedure is typically done under anesthesia, is highly precise, and preserves the uterus. It is a common treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility evaluation, and to rule out malignancy in polyps. Recovery is generally quick with minimal discomfort.

Key Highlights

Minimally invasive procedure with no abdominal incisions.Direct visualization ensures precise and complete polyp removal.Typically performed as a day-care procedure with short hospital stay.Preserves the uterus, maintaining fertility potential.Faster recovery and less post-operative pain compared to open surgery.Used for both diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic treatment./ul
