Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ahlawat

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ahlawat is a highly acclaimed urologist and the Group Chairman of the Kidney and Urology Institute at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon. With an illustrious career spanning decades, he has played a pioneering role in shaping advanced urology and kidney transplant services across India. He was instrumental in founding four top-tier urology and renal transplant programs at SGPGI Lucknow, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Fortis Healthcare, and Medanta.

An expert in minimally invasive urological procedures, Dr. Ahlawat has set benchmarks in Endourology, Laparoscopic, and Robotic surgeries. He holds the distinction of performing over 1,200 laparoscopic donor nephrectomies—the highest single-unit record globally. At Medanta, he continues to lead successful initiatives in nephron-sparing kidney surgeries, prostate cancer treatments, and bladder cancer procedures using state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Ahlawat’s dedication to medical education is evident through his role in launching M.Ch. and DNB training programs at various leading institutions. His academic contributions include numerous publications and lectures at national and international medical forums. His work has helped advance the standards of urological care both in India and abroad.

He was honored with the Chakraborty Fellowship from the Indian American Urological Association in 1992, and the PN Berry Fellowship in 1995. During his tenure at the University College London Hospitals (UCLH), he was appointed Honorary Lecturer at the Institute of Urology and Nephrology, UK. Dr. Ahlawat also serves on the Board of Directors of the Endourology Society and contributes to the editorial team of the Indian Journal of Urology as well as several peer-reviewed global journals.
