Dr. Randhir Sud

Dr. Randhir Sud is a nationally celebrated gastroenterologist and the current Chairman of the Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon. With decades of clinical and academic excellence, Dr. Sud is recognized as one of the key architects behind the development of therapeutic GI endoscopy in India.

A trailblazer in his field, Dr. Sud was among the first to introduce gastrointestinal oncology programs in the country. His contributions to gastroenterology earned him the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, in 2008. His core areas of specialization include gastrointestinal cancers, liver diseases, and endoscopic procedures for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Dr. Sud began his medical journey with an MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar in 1977, followed by an MD in Medicine (1981) and a DM in Gastroenterology (1983) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. His career was launched at AIIMS, where he served in both junior and senior residency roles before moving to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in 1985 as a Consultant in Gastroenterology.

A dedicated medical educator, Dr. Sud has over six years of teaching experience at AIIMS and is a recognized examiner and faculty member for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) examinations in Gastroenterology. His global academic contributions include visiting professorships at renowned institutions such as Harvard Medical School (Boston), the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston), and the University of Alabama (Birmingham).

Throughout his career, Dr. Randhir Sud has been celebrated not just for his clinical expertise, but also for his commitment to advancing gastrointestinal care in India. His accolades during his academic years—including multiple gold medals—further reflect his long-standing dedication to excellence in medicine.
